Green van guide 'does not go far enough'
A new guide to buying environmentally-friendly light commercial vehicles does not go far enough in helping van insurance customers reduce their carbon footprint, it has been claimed.

The Right Van Man, produced by the vehicle type approval authority VCA, the Department for Transport and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, was welcomed as a step in the right direction by Stuff2Send.com, but the website said it could have been even better.

It suggested, as well as tackling the subject of which vans are greenest, it should also have looked at cutting down wasted journeys.

The online resource pointed out too many delivery vehicles are driving around empty.

Spokesperson Colin Hay stated: "This represents a huge drain on resources for couriers, particularly those travelling long distances, but is also creates unnecessary emissions."

He explained Stuff2Send.com helps reduce this problem by connecting parcels with couriers who are already passing the intended destination.

Within a month of the service being set up, 500 drivers had signed up to it.
