'More needs to be done to reduce work-related accidents'
Companies in the UK need to put more effort into reducing work-related van insurance claims, it has been suggested.

Figures provided by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) revealed over a quarter of crashes on roads in Britain are thought to involve a person who is driving as part of their job.

In real terms, this means 200 people are killed or seriously injured on a weekly basis as the result of employment-related collisions.

Rospa has been focusing on this issue at its 74th Road Safety Congress in Blackpool over recent days.

Occupational safety advisor Roger Bibbings commented: "Being killed or injured while driving as part of one's job is the biggest risk faced by most workers."

He said the situation could be improved if businesses made a concerted effort to deal with road accidents as part of their mainstream health and safety strategy.

Van drivers who manage to build up a few years no-claims bonus could see the cost of cover fall significantly.
