'Always read the small print' on home insurance policy
Consumers should always read the small print on a home insurance policy to ensure they are not shelling out for anything unnecessary, it has been advised.

According to a recent article in the Times by Jannifer Hill, people may want to take note of various tips in order to minimise their cover expenditure.

This is instead of cancelling a policy altogether, which is something many homeowners may be tempted to do as a money-saving measure in the current climate.

However, checking the terms and conditions of an agreement may stop consumers buying finance products elsewhere, as their household cover may include things like boiler warranties or shop-bought insurance.

According to Ms Hill, increasing the level of excess might also be worth considering, although it should stay within an affordable limit. This change may cause premiums to go down.

Shopping around for the most suitable deal may also yield cheaper prices and customers may want to see if buying buildings and contents cover separately results in any more savings.
