Cobra UK - a stolen vehicle tracking company - said drivers could save themselves a lot of inconvenience and expense by hiding their keys.
The firm explained taking such items during break-ins is the most common way for burglars to steal vehicles.
It accepted storing keys away safely may not be the first thing on people's minds when they get home from work, but added doing so could help to make life more difficult for thieves.
Andrew Smith, managing director of Cobra UK, said there are other security measures drivers can put in place.
He stated: "A tracking device is a thief's worst enemy, as it can lead police to the exact location of the vehicle."
In related news, security company Tracker recently urged motorists never to leave cars unattended with the engine running, after Princess Beatrice had her BMW stolen.
