Campaign success may be welcomed by car insurance customers
People keen to avoid a car insurance claim may welcome the news 9,000 drink-drivers were removed from UK roads as the result of a crackdown over the festive season.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), the figure demonstrates targeted enforcement initiatives are an effective way to make driving safer for law-abiding citizens.

However, it pointed out there is no room for complacency, as an irresponsible minority continue to show disregard for their own and other people's safety.

Neil Greig, IAM's director of research and policy, said: "Safety is for life - not just for Christmas."

He stated: "We need more targeted enforcement all year round."

Mr Greig added the rising number of young drink-drivers over the Christmas period was disappointing.

Previously, IAM suggested Intelligent Speed Adaptation could be successfully implemented in the UK to cut road accidents.

If this were the case, the system may also reduce the number of car insurance claims in the country.
