Motor insurance customers 'must be vigilant'
Car insurance customers who do not want to risk invalidating their cover are being urged to never leave vehicles unattended with keys in the ignition.

Thames Valley police are reminding motorists of the importance of being vigilant against thieves after a Ford Ka was stolen while its owners were unloading rubbish for recycling in a supermarket car park.

PC Marc Boyd said: "I would advise motorists never to leave their keys in the car, even if it is unattended for just a few seconds."

It is believed the latest incident may be linked to a previous crime which took place at the same location last November.

On that occasion, a 63-year-old woman was dragged from her car by a thief who then jumped in and drove away.

The victim's four-year-old grandson was still in the vehicle and his grandmother dislocated her shoulder unsuccessfully trying to get him out.

The boy was released unharmed a short distance away.

People whose vehicles are taken after they were left unattended with the keys in the ignition may find their insurance provider is reluctant to pay out.
