Number of Volvo car insurance policies may have risen in 2008
The number of motorists in the UK taking out car insurance for Volvo models last year may not have been significantly affected by the economic downturn, if industry figures are anything to go by.

Citing statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the company pointed out its new vehicle sales increased by 10.98 per cent in 2008 compared with the previous 12 months.

Volvo also highlighted the fact its market share had grown by some 25 per cent in the same time period - up from 1.25 per cent to 1.56 per cent.

Sales director Nick Connor said the manufacturer's success could be attributed in part to the popularity of the R-Design package for the C30, S40 and V50.

"Used car experts CAP say it's also had a positive effect on residual values too, further increasing the cars' desirability at a time of economic uncertainty," he added.

In other news, Volvo unveiled the concept vehicle - the S60 - earlier this month at the Detroit motor show.
