Car insurance customers 'should conduct simple tests'
Drivers who do not want to end up relying on their car insurance breakdown cover to get them going in the morning should make sure they carry out regular vehicle maintenance, it has been suggested.

Haynes Publishing warned simply taking a motor for servicing is not enough, as such appointments are often few and far between.

It claimed car owners should conduct simple checks between trips to the garage.

The publisher of vehicle manuals claimed this kind of maintenance can help motorists avoid unwelcome bills.

It also pointed out routine tasks can be carried out by anyone.

"Although many car owners believe that modern cars are too complicated for them to work on, this is not so," the company stated.

Meanwhile, Haynes Publishing recently urged motorists keen to cut their fuel consumption and chances of a puncture to make sure they check their tyre pressure is at the level recommended by the manufacturer.
