Car insurance claims may be falling in Thames Valley
The number of major car insurance claims made by motorists in the Thames Valley area may have fallen last year, if police statistics are anything to go by.

Figures from the force have shown the number of people killed on roads in the region during 2008 fell below 100 for the first time on record.

Last year, 95 people died in traffic accidents in Thames Valley – a 19.7 per cent drop compared with 2007 and a 34.2 per cent fall since 2006.

Buckinghamshire county council spokeswoman Sue Brown said she welcomed the reduction.

"To have witnessed the reductions in road deaths that we have seen, in the last year in particular, marks a dramatic change on our roads," she commented.

However, Superintendent Mick Doyle pointed out even if one person a year was killed on the road in Thames Valley, there was still work to be done.

Meanwhile, police in Oxford have warned car owners to be vigilant after 11 vehicles were broken into in the Port Meadow area earlier this week.
