Moneysupermarket.com gave a number of tips which it said could slice as much as £120 in total off the cost of a home insurance premium.
It said that making payments on a yearly basis instead of once every month could bring in a £10 saving.
The group also suggested increasing the voluntary excess could help residents make significant savings.
Managing director of insurance at the website, Andy Leadbetter, noted: "While insurance is essential for financial security and peace of mind, it is important Brits only opt for a level of cover relevant to their needs and at the best available price."
Recently, moneysupermarket.com research uncovered the postcodes most at risk of burglary and theft.
According to its study, Doncaster and Bristol are the most likely places in the UK for such insurance claims to be made, with DN7 postcodes accounting for 5.94 per cent of them and BS7 ones being the subject of 5.68 per cent.
