New device 'could cut car insurance claims'
Proposals currently being considered by the government could result in a fall in car insurance claims, it has been suggested.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), plans to introduce Intelligent Speed Adaption (ISA) could cut road deaths and injuries in the UK by 29 per cent.

The system uses digital maps and global satellite positioning to pinpoint a vehicle's location.

It can then employ this data to control a car's speed – either at the driver's discretion or automatically.

Commenting on the technology, Neil Greig, IAM's director of research and policy, said: "ISA may be able to ensure that all cars observe speed limits, provided that critical safety conditions are met and tested."

However, he added when it comes to convincing the general public of the benefits, the government would need to overcome fears of a Big Brother-type state.

Meanwhile, IAM recently warned motorists who were keen to avoid a car insurance claim to be extra cautious in bad weather.
