Car insurance customers 'should be careful this Christmas'
Drivers who do not want to spend their precious Christmas break sorting out a car insurance claim need to remain vigilant when behind the wheel, it has been suggested.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), driving conditions can be particularly poor at this time of year and people need to be cautious.

It suggested drivers check the weather forecast before travelling and plan their trips carefully.

The group said it was sensible to allow extra time for journeys in case of bad conditions.

IAM also advised people to inform a loved one of their intended route and estimated time of arrival.

On top of this, it stated: "Avoid having loose items in the vehicle. The last thing you need is a broken present after all the shops are shut."

Previously, IAM urged motorists to give themselves plenty of time to recover the day after consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
