People 'should make life difficult for thieves'
Tayside police in Dundee are calling on residents - who want to avoid a home insurance claim - to spare a thought for security this Christmas, after a number of burglaries over the past week.

Some 12 properties in the city have been targeted by thieves during the past seven days.

Chief Inspector Kevin Lynch said people should keep doors and windows locked to prevent burglars simply strolling in.

He stated: "Having the family home violated in this way is a horrible experience at any time of the year - it is all the more heartbreaking at Christmas."

Mr Lynch said burglars would be looking to exploit any opportunity during the festive season and he urged people to make life as difficult as possible for thieves.

In other news, West Yorkshire police have called on residents in Wakefield to be on their guard against bogus callers turning up on their doorsteps in the run-up to Christmas.
