Highways Agency campaign could cut car insurance claims
A new road safety campaign could see car insurance claims fall in the UK over the coming months.

Launched by the Highways Agency, the initiative urges motorists to make sure they are adequately prepared for every eventuality when travelling in poor driving conditions.

The group revealed the campaign had been set up in response to research which revealed 62 per cent of men and 44 per cent of women would not be deterred from getting behind the wheel after hearing a severe weather warning.

Commenting on the findings, Derek Turner from the Highways Agency said: "We recognise that travel can be essential, so if you do decide to continue with your journey then please make sure you are prepared for the conditions."

He stated motorists should carry out basic checks of their vehicles before embarking on a lengthy journey and should also keep an emergency severe weather kit in the car.

Meanwhile, the Highways Agency recently revealed it was abandoning its yellow gritters in favour of a new £45 million fleet to tackle snow and ice.
