Dangerous vehicles 'may not be covered by car insurance'
People who have accidents while driving unroadworthy vehicles may find their car insurance claims are rejected, it has been claimed.

Car Parts Direct warned motorists not to be lulled into a false sense of security by an up-to-date MOT certificate.

Spokesman Mark Cornwell explained, as far as an insurer is concerned, an MOT certificate only proves that a vehicle was fit to drive on the day it was tested.

He pointed out: "If a suspension coil snaps on a speed bump the day after an MOT, the car is no longer roadworthy."

Car Parts Direct stated this means - even with a valid MOT certificate - drivers who are involved in an accident in a vehicle which is deemed to be dangerous could be prosecuted, fined and receive penalty points of their licence.

Meanwhile, the company recently predicted there would be an increase in breakdowns in the UK this winter, as more drivers are skipping vehicle services than in previous years.
