Road pricing 'is unfair for car insurance customers'

Road pricing 'is unfair for car insurance customers'
People who have already put their hands in their pocket for car insurance, fuel and vehicle excise duty should not also be expected to pay to travel on certain roads, it has been claimed.

The Association of British Drivers (ABD) made these comments before results for the Greater Manchester congestion charge were announced.

It stated it hoped residents would reject the proposals - and it has since been revealed that they have.

ABD said road pricing would only ever work when people do not have a choice about taking a certain route - such as when crossing the Severn Bridge.

It added if there are options, people will always go for the cheapest one.

Spokesperson Nigel Humphries commented: "The whole idea of paying for using the roads, while we've already been taxed £45 billion, is disgraceful and can only make ... [driving] difficult."

Meanwhile, the Department for Transport recently revealed it was looking into creating faster lanes for motorists who were willing to pay for a quicker commute on busy roads during rush hour.
