Schoolchildren could help cut home insurance claims
A recent initiative by police and schoolchildren in West Yorkshire could result in a fall in the number of home insurance claims made in the area as a result of burglaries.

Officers from Huddersfield and pupils attending Flockton First School held an assembly highlighting the dangers posed by thieves pretending to be officials.

The pupils also designed their own logo and produced an information leaflet.

Judith Brimicombe, police community support officer, said: "The children were great and did little scenarios showing how to and how not to answer the door to someone they don't know."

The project was organised after a couple of bogus caller incidents in the village of Flockton were reported to officers.

Ms Brimicombe stated the exercise was helpful as it gave children an awareness of crime prevention issues and encouraged them to work together.

Other areas in West Yorkshire have also recently experienced problems with bogus callers.

The police were appealing for witnesses after a burglary in Bradford during which three men posed as officials.
