People who drink-drive 'will struggle to find car insurance'
Motorists in Northern Ireland will find it hard to get car insurance cover in the future if they are caught drink-driving, it has been claimed.

This warning has been issued by police, after it was revealed some 3,800 people had already been arrested for being over the limit during this winter's campaign - compared with a total of 629 road users in 2007.

Assistant Chief Constable Roy Toner said the statistics were frightening.

He stated people should not allow themselves to be tempted to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol as "it kills, maims, wrecks families and communities".

Mr Toner commented: "I am appealing for all motorists to consider the consequences of their actions."

He added offenders would probably end up facing a minimum of a year's ban and a fine.

Meanwhile, during November, police in Northern Ireland warned motorists to be particularly vigilant on the road - after three people died in traffic accidents on one evening.
