Tyre pressure gauges 'could help cut car insurance claims'
Car Insurance News - Published: 03/12/2008

Gem Motoring Assist pointed out defective or under-inflated tyres contributed to the deaths of 43 drivers last year and been a factor in another 1,000 traffic accidents.
Chief executive David Williams said: "People are very neglectful about checking their tyres - and that is reflected in more than one million MOT failures in 2007-8 as a result of tyre defects."
He stated people may be more inclined to check their tyre pressure if they had their own gauge.
Mr Williams went on to say the facilities often provided on fuel station forecourts could be inaccurate and could give motorists a false sense of security.
Previously, Gem warned drivers to be extra vigilant when out and about at night, as 40 per cent of traffic collisions occur during the hours of darkness.
