Businesses 'should give employees driver training'
The number of work-related car insurance claims each year could be dramatically reduced if drivers were better trained, it has been suggested.

According to Mercedes-Benz World, some 55,000 accidents could be avoided if people who get behind the wheel as part of their employment received proper instruction.

Statistics from the Department for Transport have shown 27 per cent of all crashes in the UK involve an individual who is making a work-related journey.

As a result of these figures, Mercedes-Benz World has set up a course for businesses designed to improve employees' vehicle control, handling ability and capability to assess road risks.

Peter O'Halloran from the organisation said: "Driving is potentially one of the most dangerous things we do and time pressures, meetings and deadlines can be especially distracting when driving for work."

Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz World pledged to reduce the number of road deaths caused by accidents involving young drivers.
