Burglary crackdown declared a success
People who have had to make a home insurance claim as the result of a burglary may welcome the news that 30 suspects have been arrested, during an initiative involving five police forces.

Operation Storyboard involved officers from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire and was the first regional campaign to tackle distraction burglaries in October, November and December.

Detective Sergeant Debbie King said: "Distraction burglary is a particularly despicable offence because the offenders target the elderly and most vulnerable in our society."

She added the police were only halfway through their campaign but had already enjoyed significant success.

The initiative is being supported by a crime prevention scheme with one key message - if you do not know the person at the door, do not let them in.

In related news, Bedfordshire police announced they had arrested two people on suspicion of attempted distraction burglary earlier in the week.
