Motorists 'need to prepare for winter driving'
People who want to avoid making a car insurance claim this winter should make the time to check their motor is in tip-top condition, it has been suggested.

Confused.com advised vehicle owners to ensure their batteries are well-charged before embarking on a long journey.

It also suggested drivers top up windscreen washer fluid with antifreeze and check their tyre tread is above the legal minimum of 1.6 mm.

Car insurance expert Will Thomas added: "Leaving home ten minutes earlier, in order to de-ice the windscreen, will save that potentially dangerous made rush to work."

He claimed the extra time would be well spent and could save motorists substantial sums of money in the long run.

Mr Thomas explained if a driver is involved in an accident because they were in a rush and received nine points on their licence they could see their car insurance premiums rise by up to 50 per cent.

In other news, Confused.com recently reported Only Fools and Horses character Del Boy could end up paying over £600 a year for car insurance for his Reliant Robin - as a result of his Peckham postcode.
