Police 'are doing more to catch uninsured drivers'
Car Insurance News - Published: 19/11/2008

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the use of improved technology is making it easier and quicker for the police to identify uninsured motorists.
It stated the authorities were using an automatic number plate recognition system and a database of car insurance policies to trap those people breaking the law.
The organisation also claimed the police could tell within minutes of stopping someone whether or not they were covered.
Spokesman Malcolm Tarling commented: "There is none of this having to produce your insurance certificate within seven days."
He added the efficiency of the process was working as a deterrent to people considering getting behind the wheel without cover.
Figures from the Motor Insurers' Bureau have revealed honest drivers pay an extra £30 every year in car insurance as a result of uninsured road users.
