Research reveals worst areas for car crime
Drivers in East Sussex are more likely than motorists anywhere else in the UK to claim on their car insurance for theft from and of their vehicles, it has been revealed.

Research by moneysupermarket.com showed four per cent of road users in the village of Winchelsea have made a claim for theft in the past five years.

Saltburn-by-the-sea in Cleveland and Godstone in Surrey came in second and third place - with just over three per cent of drivers in those areas making claims during the same period.

Andy Leadbetter from moneysupermarket.com said: "It is quite a shock to see smaller rural villages snatching the top spots in the UK for car theft."

He added motorists needed to be vigilant to avoid becoming a victim.

Mr Leadbetter suggested fitting an alarm and using a steering wheel lock would be a couple of effective ways to protect a vehicle.

In other news, moneysupermarket.com recently reported motorists caught driving while under the influence of alcohol could see their car insurance premiums rise by 82 per cent.
