Fall in uninsured drivers is 'good news for honest motorists'
The fact the police are catching more people who get behind the wheel without car insurance is good news for honest motorists, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has claimed.

According to the group, people who are prepared to take to the road without cover are generally more dangerous than other drivers because they are more likely to have an unroadworthy vehicle and are also more likely to be convicted of drink driving.

The organisation made these comments after government figures revealed the number of rogue motorists in the UK had fallen significantly in recent years.

Since 2006, the proportion of uninsured road users has reportedly fallen from 1.9 per cent to 1.2 per cent.

Commenting on the findings, spokesperson for ABI Malcolm Tarling said: "Uninsured drivers are not only expensive, they are also a danger on the road so anything we can do to reduce the number is good news for everyone."
