People planning long trips 'should check their home insurance'

The group added before going anywhere for an extended break it is important for homeowners to ensure they have suitable protection for the belongings they are leaving behind.
Home insurance expert Darren Black said most home insurance policies stipulate that properties should not be left unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or more.
People planning a long trip should "make sure that there is someone staying in the house at some point whilst they are away to make sure homeowners do not inadvertently invalidate their cover", he added.
In other news, Confused.com recently reported winter can increase people's chances of having to make a home insurance claim and warned damage caused by heating appliances, fires and burglaries can cause premiums to rise significantly.
