Police act to prevent plate thefts
Car Insurance News - Published: 13/11/2008

Bedfordshire police have noted a rise in the number of licence plate thefts in the area in recent times.
In order to combat this, officers will be available to fit special security screws to plates free of charge at locations across the town over the next three weekends.
The immediate financial cost of having a number plate replaced may seem minimal and in most cases will not involve a car insurance claim.
However, research carried out by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency found that stolen plates are often used to clone cars and to evade motoring penalties, such as speeding and parking fines.
Drivers who have had their plates stolen can find they receive penalty notices for offences they have not committed and then have to go to the trouble of proving they were not at the wheel at the time.
