Residents warned about car key burglaries

Residents warned about car key burglaries
Warwickshire police have advised residents to avoid car burglaries by hiding keys from outside view at night.

This warning follows an incident on Sunday night whereby the offenders apparently used a device to reach through the letterbox to grab keys that were only six feet away, before making off with two of the household's cars.

Detective Superintendant of Warwickshire police Martyn Stephens said "As well as locking windows and doors, conceal your keys so they are not in view through windows or by pushing open a letterbox."

He also suggested that car insurance customers stand to benefit by parking cars in a garage when possible, ensuring all entry points to the vehicle are secured and investing in a home security system.

Meanwhile, West Yorkshire police took steps last month to safeguard residents against these so-called Hanoi burglaries.

Officers visited 40 properties in Drighlington and distributed crime prevention packs to homes in the Hanoi hotspots which included security upgrades for doors, property marking equipment and a £15 discount voucher for a steering wheel Disklock.
