'Driving costs reduced with newer cars'
Motorists hoping to cut driving costs amid the intensifying global economic meltdown have been advised to invest in a newer car to save up to £800 a year in fuel costs, according to the vehicle rental company Europcar.

A 125-mile test run of 11 different-sized and different-aged cars, which was carried out by the firm, revealed that newer cars achieve a 14 per cent improvement over the Vehicle Certification Agency's combined fuel economy figures.

Tim Bailey, Europcar's fleet director, said: "Our experiment shows not only that driving the newer cars will save you money, but also that the driving style adopted plays a huge part in the fuel economy you can achieve in the real world."

Meanwhile, the Energy saving Trust has urged motorists who feel the costs of driving is getting to be too much, from car insurance payments to maintenance and servicing, to drive more efficiently.
