Lower tax on fuel could help British drivers

Lower tax on fuel could help British drivers
The easiest way for the government to help Brits in the current economic climate would be to lower fuel taxation, according to the Association of British Drivers (ABD).

UK drivers battling rising fuel costs on top of car insurance and maintenance payments do not care about the profits that the oil companies are making.

According to ABD spokesperson Hugh Bladon it is the amount of money from petrol payments that goes to the Treasury that has the greatest impact on British drivers.

He said: "The easiest way for the government to ease the pressure on people's pockets would be to reduce the tax."

In a survey carried out on behalf of GPS systems provider TomTom 71 per cent of British drivers believe they get a worse deal on petrol than other European drivers.

Around 37 per cent of people said they think that the average man will find it too expensive to drive a car in the future.
