Van drivers among speeders in North Yorkshire
An ongoing road safety campaign in North Yorkshire has led to the capture of 14 road offenders, five of whom were van drivers, it has emerged.

Drivers caught exceeding the 60 mph limit on the A165 Reighton bypass last Thursday were given the option of attending an educational presentation as an alternative to a fixed-penalty notice, the Scarborough Evening News reported.

Detective constable Dave Burlingham, who coordinated Operation Siren, said: "The five transit van drivers learnt a valuable lesson from the operation and I hope other van drivers consult their highway code manual to ensure they understand the speed restrictions."

UK van insurance customers have also been warned to check their tread depth to stay safe on wet roads this coming winter.

A recent survey conducted on behalf of UK tyre safety organisation Tyre Safe revealed that only 30 per cent of drivers are aware of the country's minimum legal tyre tread depth.
