Police initiative safeguards against thefts from car park vehicles
York police are launching an initiative to warn car insurance customers that if they leave their belongings on display in car parks they will pay for the crime that follows, it has been reported.

The display and pay scheme will see the police join forces with nine hotels across the city, which will work to fulfil a Safer York Partnership accreditation, the York Press reports.

Each hotel involved is set to improve security in their car parks and will strive to deter guests from leaving valuables in parked cars.

Nigel Faxon, guest service manager of the Park Inn Hotel which is involved in the scheme, said: "It is sending out a message that the police don’t just react to crime, they work to prevent it and we are happy to be working with them."

In related news, police secured an anti-social behaviour order on a Newcastle thief banning him from every car park in England and Wales for two years, the BBC reported.
