South Yorkshire boasts reduced burglaries

South Yorkshire home insurance customers will be glad to hear that police figures have revealed burglary rates over the past six months have fallen from the same period of last year.

There have been 4,171 burglary offences this year which means192 fewer houses were targeted - a reduction of 10 per cent.

Deputy Police Chief Constable Bob Dyson said: "This is an outstanding result when you consider that burglary over the past five years has dropped by 30 per cent."

He added that forces around the country have experienced a slight increase in this type of offence, which demonstrates that South Yorkshire is a safe place to live.

Despite good news in South Yorkshire for homeowners, police around the country have advised people to be vigilant against crime over the Halloween period.

The number of home insurance claims made after the festivities in 2007 rose by 150 per cent across the UK, according to one recent survey.
