Police tackle traffic offences
Over a hundred motorists could be facing higher car insurance premiums following a campaign carried out by police in the north of England to tackle traffic offences.

Specialist road policing officers from Cheshire police conducted checks on motorists in the Runcorn and Widnes area on Thursday and used automatic number plate recognition technology to detect those driving without car insurance.

Over the course of the day, a total of 104 drivers were stopped and issued with either fixed penalty notices or summons for a variety of offences.

Some 49 drivers were found to have been speeding, while 18 were pulled over for failing to wear their seat belts and six were discovered using their mobile phones while at the wheel.

Commenting on the operation, Sergeant Neil Farnworth said: "It seems that there are always a minority of drivers who choose to ignore the rules. Rest assured we will take action against anyone who is prepared to flout the law."

James Flynn OBE, chief executive officer of RoadPilot, recently warned those who speed regularly that given the number of speed cameras across the UK they are "in danger" of being fined and receiving penalty points.
