Motorists save money through 'green' driving
Car Insurance News - Published: 16/10/2008

As motorists juggle the costs of driving, such as fuel prices and car insurance, they are looking to be more economical, states Jay Nagley of Clean Green Cars.
He points out that average speeds on motorways have dropped and people seem to be driving with fuel economy in mind.
"In the city it is a case of driving more smoothly and at a steady speed as well as anticipating what the traffic lights are going to do," Mr Nagley explains.
Cars will use more fuel if drivers accelerate hard and slam the breaks on at the last moment, he adds.
Eco-driving includes changing gear at 2,000-2,500rpm, switching off the engine when safe to do so, anticipating when you will need to break, accelerate or change gear and removing unnecessary items from the car.
Benefits can include reduced fuel consumption and therefore lower fuel bills, fewer carbon dioxide emissions and lower accident rates as a result of better anticipation, which means fewer car insurance claims.
