Drivers' concentration 'affected by gadgets'
The welfare of motorists may be being put at risk by the number of in-car gadgets vehicles now feature, it has been claimed.

Some 70.6 per cent of motorists surveyed by motors.co.uk said they were being "driven to distraction" by car gadgets, car insurance customers may be interested to learn.

A further 52.9 per cent said they would be in favour of the number of non-essential features in cars being reduced.

Katie Armitage, marketing manager for motors.co.uk, said: "Many modern cars are filled with gadgets and gizmos and for many drivers are seen as not only confusing to use but also a major cause of distraction for both themselves and other drivers."

Car manufacturers ought to take motorists' safety into consideration when designing add-ons, she said.

Despite the findings of the website's survey, recent research by TomTom suggested that sat nav devices are relied upon by some drivers.

Some 74 per cent of drivers with sat navs said they feel more in control when driving if they use such systems.ADNFCR-1058-ID-18821319-ADNFCR
