Thames Valley police have urged motorists to take simple steps to prevent them from becoming the victims of thieves.
Drivers ought to park in well-lit areas and ensure their windows and doors are secured, the force said.
Kama Wager, crime reduction adviser for Aylesbury Vale, urged people not to "tempt" thieves by leaving valuable items on display.
"Ensure no valuables or cash are left on display, even if you are just leaving your car for a few minutes, that's all it takes for the thief to steal your sat nav, laptop or your handbag," the expert warned.
Thames Valley police recently appealed for residents to ensure their homes are cars are secure after several incidents in which keys were stolen from properties and cars parked in their driveways were stolen.
