Drivers warned about 'fronting'
Car Insurance News - Published: 09/10/2008

The practice involves young drivers being added to their parents' car insurance as named drivers when they are in fact the main user of the vehicle.
According to the Independent newspaper, students and their parents often commit fronting by adding the younger person to their insurance and then allowing them to take the car away with them.
However, Malcolm Tarling, specialist in general insurance for the Association of British Insurers, said the practice is a "false economy" as it can end up costing more in the long-run.
"If the insurer thinks you are, in fact, the main user when you have led them to believe that you are an occasional user, they could turn down a claim for damage and theft, and their insurance will be more expensive in the future," the expert warned.
Technically, he said, fronting is fraud and may not mean people save money overall.
