Speeders caught during police crackdown
Several motorists in Cheltenham could be facing higher car insurance premiums after being caught speeding during an operation launched by Gloucestershire police.

Officers caught 15 drivers speeding in the area between 18:00 BST on Sunday and 02:00 BST on Monday.

Some 13 drivers were handed fixed penalty notices, which could increase the cost of their car insurance premiums.

A further two motorists were reported for summons during the initiative.

Commenting on the success of the campaign, PC Mark Love, from the Cheltenham Town Centre Safer Community Team, said he hoped the operation would offer "additional reassurance to people living and working in the town centre that we take the matter of speeding very seriously and will continue to clamp down on individuals who drive irresponsibly and at dangerous speeds".

In related news, RoadPilot recently reported that 71 per cent of motorists surveyed admitted to breaking the speed limit on more than a quarter of all journeys they make.

Some 60 per cent also said the speed limit for motorways and dual carriageways ought to be raised, car insurance customers may be interested to learn.
