Parents urged to get appropriate child car seats
Car Insurance News - Published: 01/10/2008

The force's Neighbourhood Policing Team in Manningham carried out a campaign to tackle the problem of people failing to adhere to current car seat legislation.
Officers stopped 27 vehicles in the area, but instead of handing out fines to those breaking the law, motorists were given an explanation of the law and their names are to be included on a database.
The team is planning to visit those identified during the campaign to ensure they have acquired suitable child seats, car insurance customers may be interested to learn.
Commenting on the initiative, Sergeant Richard Cummings, from the team, said: "We felt a fine was not an appropriate punishment for those people we stopped as the money they would have spent paying it could be used to buy the appropriate child seats instead."
In related news, a campaign to tackle motorists who do not secure their children in car seats undertaken by Cleveland police did not find a single offender.
Acting Inspector Gary Hatton, of the force's road policing unit, said he was "delighted" that none of the cars stopped were breaking laws relating to securing child passengers.
