One-third drivers 'would fail tests now'
Almost 12 million drivers admit they would struggle to pass their tests again if they took them now, new research shows.

Price comparison website Confused.com finds one-third of British drivers think they would fail a driving test now.

It reveals those aged between 35 and 44 are the least confident in their ability to drive to an acceptably high standard to secure a licence.

The head of car insurance at the website Will Thomas says the findings are concerning.

He urges motorists to brush up on the Highway Code, adding: "Reckless driving can be extremely costly for motorists, not least in terms of car insurance premiums which rocket as drivers rack up points."

Furthermore, he calls for motorists to ensure they understand the basics of safe driving, after the research found 1.5 million drivers believe it is acceptable to use the hard shoulder to overtake, rest or answer the phone.

Recently, moneysupermarket.com urged all drivers to check they have the correct level of insurance needed for their circumstances, to avoid being caught short following an accident or other issue.ADNFCR-1058-ID-18800776-ADNFCR
