Lock up, households told
Home Insurance News - Published: 26/09/2008

A number of the burglaries reported in the past week were carried out by thieves who found properties with unlocked points of entry, according to the Northants Evening Telegraph.
Local Safer Community Team Inspector Pete Chisholm said that in many of the burglaries, thieves simply had to walk and "grab what they want".
"I'm asking people to keep their doors and windows locked even when they are at home so that the burglars who are targeting this area at the moment don't have such an easy ride," Inspector Pete Chisholm.
Home insurance customers may be able to avoid making claims by following the officer's advice, while the force's Smartwater scheme, which enables people to mark their possessions, could also help those in the area discourage burglars.
In related news, Kelly Ostler-Coyle, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, recently advised consumers to "shop around" for home insurance and to base their final decision on what a policy covers, rather than the price.
