Custom car fans warned by police
Car insurance customers attending this year's Custom Car Show in Doncaster have been urged to ensure their cars meet required standards.

South Yorkshire police said they will be carrying out routine checks on vehicles during the show, which takes place at Doncaster Racecourse between September 26th and 28th.

Although modified vehicles tend to be altered and maintained "to a high standard", some may not be roadworthy, the police said.

Inspector Steve Askham, of the road policing group, commented: "We welcome the show to Doncaster. My officers will firmly and fairly enforce the law to promote the safety of visitors to the show and the community."

Motorists attending the show have been advised to bring relevant documentation with them and to ensure they do no leave their cars unattended.

Ben Chandler, reviews editor at Fast Car Magazine, recently said that people who modify cars are unlikely to have been affected by the credit crunch, as most people who choose to alter their cars tend to "live at home with their parents".
