DSA tackles driving test fraudsters
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has warned people that impersonating someone else to take a driving test is a crime it takes very seriously.

Car insurance customers may be interested to know that Omed Osman Ahmad, from Stoke-on-Trent, was recently given a suspended 39-week prison sentence and 200 hours of community service.

Ipswich crown court had heard how Ahmad had been paid by a number of people to take driving tests in their name.

Following the offender's prosecution, head of fraud and integrity at the DSA, said the agency was "committed" to prosecuting offenders.

He commented: "Failing to identify offenders presents major dangers to road safety because impersonators undermine the system by gaining entitlement to drive for those unable or unwilling to undertake the proper assessment."

Mr Rice explained that a driving licence can be used by people as proof of identity and can be used to obtain a variety of identity documents and credit in the UK.

In 2006-07, the DSA carried out 1.8 million practical driving tests and more than 1.5 million theory tests, car insurance customers may be interested to learn.
