Police 'concerned' with motoring offences

The force said that between January and May 2008, the number of KSI casualties rose by 37 to 157, compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.
Of the 39 fatal casualties recorded in 2007, 12 were found to have not been wearing their seat belts, the report noted.
Deputy Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer, vice-chair of the Suffolk Roadsafe Board, said police are worried that motorists are "not taking traffic offences seriously enough".
"Too many lives are being needlessly shattered and wasted so we are getting tough on offenders," DCC Cheer remarked.
"If you break the law and risk lives then we'll catch you," she warned.
Car insurance customers may be interested to know that the government recently announced new careless driving laws to impose stricter penalties on those who cause death by not paying due care to the road.
Such drivers can now be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
