Speeders warned by police

Speeders warned by police
Failing to stick to the speed limit could lead to serious penalties, according to a senior Scottish policeman.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary Chief Superintendent Michael McCormick, who is also a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, said speeding is a "major problem".

The officer made his comments following the association's decision to lead a campaign to tackle speeding drivers and those who fail to wear their seat belts – offences which can both lead to fines and potentially increase the cost of car insurance.

"Drivers must change their attitude about speeding whether it is driving over the posted limit or too fast for the road conditions," Mr McCormick stated.

Speed limits are "there to protect the public" and so motorists breaking the law will be "caught and punished", he warned.

A recent survey by RoadPilot discovered that 71 per cent of motorists admitted to speeding on more than a quarter of journeys.

James Flynn OBE, chief executive officer of the firm, said many people are risking fines and penalty points, which could lead to an increase in their car insurance premiums.
