Van thieves 'target' VW

Van thieves 'target' VW
The owners of a Volkswagen camper van in Halifax believe their vehicle may have been targeted by thieves seeking to do up their own car.

Lee Elmore and Rebecca Holden are appealing to other camper van owners – who may want to check they had adequate van insurance – to be "vigilant" after they had their windscreen stolen, the Halifax Courier reports.

Ms Holden said they thought the windscreen had been taken by someone "who knew exactly what they wanted".

Her partner said it was "appalling" that someone may have burgled them in order to restore their own vehicle.

"It is a shock and it is upsetting to think someone has stolen from our pride and joy to do up their own," Mr Elmore told the newspaper.

Luckily the pair was insured, but he said some of the other equipment stolen was "rare and not easy to get hold of".

In related news, a man in Lancashire has been found guilty of stealing a post office van at Burnley magistrates' court, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.
