Uninsured drivers targeted

Uninsured drivers targeted
A lot is being done to tackle the problem of uninsured drivers, according to the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB).

Speaking to the Telegraph and Argus, Neil Drane from the MIB said that the organisation has been working with the police to provide them with the tools to target areas "using greater technology and intelligence".

"As a result, police forces in the UK have taken 350,000 vehicles off the road to date over the last couple of years with 40 per cent getting crushed or disposed of," Mr Drane stated.

He made his comments after a study by the organisation found the BD3 postcode area of Bradford is the worst in the UK for drivers taking to the roads without car insurance, the newspaper noted.

It found 61 per cent of motorists in Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Thornbury did not have insurance.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, said the problem of uninsured drivers adds approximately £30 to lawful motorists' car insurance premiums.
