Uninsured motorists 'cost everyone'

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, said there are a large number of uninsured drivers in the UK due to the cost of car insurance and the fact that many believe "they can get away with it".
However, the problem "costs everyone else a lot of money", the expert asserted, claiming that assistance given to those affected by uninsured drivers needs to be paid for somehow.
"There is a levy on every single motor insurance policy which adds up to around £500 million a year. And that means everyone is paying that extra £30 on their motor insurance," Mr Trudgill remarked.
According to figures compiled by the Motor Insurance Bureau, seizures of uninsured cars reached 150,000 last year.
The organisation stated that this equated to one vehicle every three minutes.
