Police raise awareness of motorcycle riders
As part of a national initiative to reduce the number of deaths on the UK's roads, police in West Yorkshire have launched a campaign to raise awareness of road safety.

Officers from the force's Motorcycle Unit will be taking to the roads to speak to motorists and motorcyclists who are found to be driving without consideration of other road users.

West Yorkshire police said those who are found to be committing serious offences will be prosecuted, which could affect the cost of their car insurance premiums.

Sergeant Graham Wood form the Motorcycle Unit said: "The safety of everyone who uses our roads is our paramount concern, so this campaign is not about targeting motorcyclists, but about raising awareness amongst all road users of the presence of motorcyclists on our roads."

Throughout September, officers will be stopping motorcyclists and drivers and giving them advice on how to drive more safely, he added.

In related news, police in Leeds are appealing for information after a boy was left with serious facial injuries following a traffic collision.

The driver involved in the incident failed to stop at the scene.
